US Secretary of State John Kerry arrived in Cuba on Friday to officially open the US embassy in Havana.

"We believe that Cubans deserve true democracy in which people will be able to choose their leaders, express their opinions, and profess their faith," Kerry said in a speech before the ceremony. The US Embassy in Havana was opened four weeks after Washington opened its gates to the embassy of Cuba. Last month the American office situated on the island nation dealt only with business affairs as they waited for the visit of minister Kerry for the official opening. The opening ceremony was attended by three veterans who were at the removing of the flag in 1961. They passed the new flag to the guards, who pulled it to its mast.
